“I love you, I love you” – Eine Liebesgeschichte mit Tics und Twist

Es ist im Grunde eine sehr niedliche Liebesgeschichte, in der ein Mann erzählt, wie sehr er seine Freundin liebt, wie sehr sie ihn ebenso liebt und wie beide mit ihren Tics umgehen, die ihr manchmal das Leben schwer machen. Eigentlich findet er sie auch gar nicht schlimm, mitunter sogar liebenswert, sieht aber auch, wie schwierig es manchmal für sie ist, wenn sie beispielsweise etwas solange wiederholen muss, bis es sich richtig anfühlt.

… bis er ihr dann mal einen Stift in die Hand drückt, während sie schläft, und ihr Tic eine Nachricht hinterlässt.

All this to say, I think it’s worth noting that pulling off a twist like this takes a fair amount of craft— an understanding of genre and tone that allows one to set up an audience for one thing, and then, slowly contort it into something else. That seems simple in concept, but it’s actually quite tricky in execution, as it’s a balancing act between not revealing too much, yet also not relying on shock value or cheap tricks. Of course, discussing this piece becomes difficult without venturing into spoiler territory, so without further adieu…
